6 Reasons Why You Should Not Start a Blog

By now, you are probably tired of me stating how much I love blogging. You also know how I encourage others to start a blog too. However, there are some right and wrong reasons to do so. If you are planning to start/have started a blog for any of the following reasons, then, you should rethink your motives and positively align them.

Without further ado, let’s get into it…

▶️ Perfection is thy enemy: How to overcome it?

▶️ How to Overcome Writer’s Block?

⚙️ You are not willing to put in the hard work

While this is a relative viewpoint, it is essential to note that blogging is a slow process. If you want to grow your blog seriously, you have to be patient and put in the hard work. Most of the blogs do not take off almost immediately. Blogging is not an overnight success. Sure, there are exceptions to the rule but if you are thinking about starting a blog, you have to be committed to the idea that it is a long haul. If you are not willing to be patient enough, perhaps you should think twice!

💰 You are focussing on income from the very beginning

If you are focussing on money from the very beginning, then that might not be the best start. I believe that you should focus on the things that make you happy and try to implement them in your blogging practice. Therefore, if you are a chef or interested in cooking – why not make write about some original recipes on your blog? That way, you will be blogging about something you like. You will not be too concerned about the monetary aspects of blogging. Sure! Earning from your blog sounds like a dream job to many, but that is definitely the wrong way to start.

🤓 You are not willing to be consistent… for years

Blogging is a marathon, not a sprint. While the time duration is very relative, it takes quite some amount of time before you see any kind of traction. If you aim to earn money and get famous from day one, then, I am afraid you are harbouring the wrong mindset. Small yet steady efforts give rise to cumulative results. If you are willing to put in the effort for at least the first two years of your blogging journey, then I can assure you that you will be seeing some differences.

💡 You are not dynamic with your creative pursuits

The world of content creation is very dynamic and ever-changing. You have to adapt accordingly. Getting stuck on the same content is not going to be fruitful. Remember, content creation, nowadays, is oversaturated — this is nothing but the hard truth. Therefore, you need to always polish your craft and do at least 1% better than the previous day. In this world of oversaturated content, what makes your product better than the rest? You always have to answer this question and apply the mindset to your work.

📲 Social media affects your mental health

Social media can be too much these days. I am not saying that blogging cannot be done without the influence of social media. However, in many cases, people tend to pay attention to these sites in order to promote their blog. This can be an exhausting endeavour — I speak from experience. Finding the right balance is the key to good mental and physical health. If you are not a fan of social media, I am not saying that blogging is a no-no for you. However, social does speed up the process in terms of promoting your work. In case, you still want to avoid it, do not fret! There are plenty of great bloggers without social media and they are doing just fine! Just be more patient and determined than usual.

😐 You have no idea what you are getting into

This is not really an excuse for not blogging but I am still listing it because I know many people having this mindset. Trying something out can be confusing and sometimes, daunting. However, nowadays, there are so many (free) options for blogging that would give you an idea of how to manoeuvre the journey in order to get some idea about it. However, if you still think this is not something you are willing to undertake, then I completely understand and respect your opinion. But, there is always a first time for everything — therefore, consider it once before making a decision.

Blogging is a beautiful journey. I would ask you to give it a try and see how it goes, before making any final decision. Remember, it does not take much to end something you start.

Are there any other reasons to NOT start a blog? Let me know in the comment!
