I Did Something From My Bucket List!

11 years ago, I came across the concept of a bucket list. Like any other teenager, I immediately formulated mine, with the hopes to strike off the items someday. Over the years, I have been doing the easier stuff like, ‘get my driver’s licence’ or ‘go on a trip with friends.’ However, last week, I struck off a significant item from the list — paragliding.

I went on a short family trip to Kalimpong from March 16 to 20. For those who don’t know, Kalimpong is a hill town in the Himalayan foothills of India. Paragliding was the last thing on my mind at that time, which is ironic because when I was there 8 years ago, it was the first time I came to know about this adventure sport. I wanted to do it but was stumped at the cost. Coming back home, I put it on my bucket list and promised to do it someday when I will be old enough to invest in it myself! Fortunately, on our way to sightseeing, I ended up coming across paragliding stations. It sparked that desire in me again and this time, I knew that I had to do it. I need to do it. It didn’t take long for me to decide, make the payment, sign the agreement and get ready to climb the little hill, from where they were taking off.

People say that paragliding is a thrilling experience. You are thousands of feet up in the air while being attached to a parachute. It can be daunting and that’s where the thrill comes from.

However, when I took off the hill and looked down at the town from 8500 feet high, I did not feel my stomach drop. I did not feel nauseous. The week before that, I went on the Ferris wheel twice and every time, the wheel went down, I felt my stomach drop. So, when I was perfectly fine being up there tied to a parachute while I look down from 8500 feet above, is a pretty great feeling for me.

My view from up there!

Why am I telling you all this? Because it was one of the most memorable and enjoyable experiences of my life and I wanted to share it with you! I know this story does not resonate much since I am failing to express my feelings regarding this experience! But, trust me, it only motivated me to work towards striking off the other items on my bucket list. Paragliding is one of the greatest experiences in my life, and I hope it won’t be my last!

If you’ve made it here, then thanks for reading something very different from what I posted. I will be back with a better post next time!

  1. Amazing! Paragliding is so much fun! I have only done it once but I kinda want to try it again because I’m not sure that I properly enjoyed the first one… I love how spontaneously you took that decision and I’m so excited for you to start checking through each item on your bucket list! Can’t wait to read more about your experiences! 😊
